and resources including a primary curriculum text. Parent Trainers facilitate all
the workshops, and curriculums have either been developed by the SEA Center or by
other parent organizations. For all-day workshops, lunch is on us!

Partners In Education: Special Education Trainings for Parents
Sections include Parental Involvement, Organization and Planning; Communication
and Team Building; Overviews of Federal Laws; Assessment; the IEP process;
Conflict Resolution, ADR, and Procedural Safeguards; Resources and Information.
Generally presented as an all day training (9-4) but may be offered as a two part
evening training (ex, 5:30-8:30 pm). A required training for prospective Mentor Parents.
Resource Parent Training:
An introductory training for "new" parents, parents interested in supporting
other parents, or those interested in becoming a Mentor. Topics include grieving;
time management; parents as managers; effective communication skills; family /
sibling issues; resources and information. Generally offered as a 3-hour training.
Positive Behavior Interventions Parents Need to Know
An overview of behavioral issues, including positive approaches to challenging
behaviors; helping children learn new behavioral skills; behavioral assessments;
understanding the context of behaviors; and changing attitudes about behaviors.
A 3-hour training.
Health Connections, A Guide for Families of Children with Special Health Care Needs.
A comprehensive training, which offers information on various health related service
systems, processes, and more. Included are eligibility requirements for programs
such as SSI, CCS, Medi-Cal, and Healthy Families; advocacy skills for parents
dealing with public programs as well as private insurance companies; appeals
processes; and more. A 3-hour training.
